It is a solo exhibition featuring vibrant imagery of ceaseless creation - from natural abundance to urban landscape to the mystery of in-between spaces.

For more information, visit website at email rcandy@sjny.eduI have had the great joy to work with leading master printmakers including Kathy Caraccio of K.Caraccio Printmaking Studio, who curated this show and continues to be a catalyst for learning and experimentation. Other works in the show emerged from my collaboration with master printmakers including Marina Ancona, Sheila Goloborotko, the late Sheila Marbain of Maurel Studio, and many printmaking masters including Bruce Waldman at the Robert Blackburn Studio and other teachers at the Manhattan Graphics Center. I have also studied with visionary educator and artist the late Robert Kaupelis. An early influence and supporter of my work was my high school art chairperson Yale Epstein who encouraged my creative development. It was in high school where I was first introduced to printmaking through a scholarship to the Brooklyn Museum Art School.

I have been making prints and living in Brooklyn all my life.

Most of my imagery is inspired by this place of constant growth – the juxtaposition of hard-edged buildings escalating ever taller with the trees and plants growing in parks, along streets, and in sidewalk cracks despite all odds.  I am also a former layout artist (long before digital publishing), and so I draw with a blade – cutting across the surfaces of wood, metal, linoleum, Plexiglass or matboard to express the mysterious rhythms of this place and my own inner knowing. Flowers and leaves bump up against human trash of foil, mesh, cardboard and milk cartons to give the plate added texture. Working hand-in-hand with a skilled master printmaker to ink the plate, there is the moment of pulling a print off the press, each one a unique surprise.
